What stops a furnace
A furnace that will not heat is usually one of a short list. A technician works down it from the thermostat to the burner:
- Thermostat settings, batteries and wiring
- Airflow: the filter, the blower and the return
- Ignition and the flame sensor on a gas furnace
- Limit and pressure switches that shut the furnace down for safety
- The control board
- Heating elements on an electric furnace
If you smell gas
Leave the house, then call the gas utility and 911 from outside. Do not turn lights or switches on or off, and do not try to restart the furnace. A carbon monoxide alarm that sounds is the same: get everyone outside first.
Repair or replace
Most no-heat calls are a repair. If the furnace is old and the repair list is getting long, we go over both options, and a new install can be financed with $0 down. The estimate is free.
How to start
Say what the unit is doing and where the house or the store is. Outside our hours, send a text with a number to call back on.
